Irish Trip to St. Enda's Rathfarnham

At 9.30 am on Friday the 10th of May all Transition Years left for St.Enda's Rathfarnham. We arrived there at around half 10 and had little break until 11.
We split up into our class groups. My class were firstly going on a nature walk. We all got a sticker and stuck different plants & flowers to it. The nature walk was lovely and the scenery was beautiful.
Next my class were watching a DVD about Patrick Pearse including how he set up the school and more. The DVD was enjoyable and was only 20 minutes long.
The last thing my class did was a tour of the museum which used to be the school. We got to see the loads of the original items. Some of things we walked around are the main hall, the little church, the living room, the study and the bedrooms for the children boarding.
At half one we got to go for lunch in the coffee shop and we all left to go back to the school at around 2.20pm.
Overall the day went fast and was another good Transition Year outing.

Week after Easter

It's the first week back after Easter and everyone is settling in again, everyone seemed to enjoy Easter and is sad to be back already!

French: In French at the moment 6 of us are starting a project and the other 3 are doing orals. My project is on Paris and we are starting to work on it properly next week.

Art: In Art we have all started our puppets. We firstly had to draw out what we wanted our puppet to look like then started off with the puppet's head using newspaper and masking tape. This week I started to work on the puppet's features.

Home Ec: We have two doubles a week so in the first double we cook and this week we baked Lemon Curd cupcakes. For the other double we are making a teddy and my teddy is coming along well.

Science: This week we had a new teacher as we always swap teachers each term, we did an experiment for our double.

Music: For Music class we discussed what song to do for Ty Night and we also got into groups of 4. We have two weeks to pick a song and perform it.

Technology: Next week we will all be starting a phone holder and we can pick the design ourselves & we will have all the rest of April & May to finish it.

English: We are continuing to practice our drama's and are hoping to perform some of them for Ty night.

Kildare & Bowling!

On Wednesday the 20th of April all of the TY's were going out for the day. We left the school at 9.00am and got the bus to Kildare town. We firstly had a look at different statues of St.Brigit then watched a small video back when she lived in that time. After this we walked to the Round Tower and everyone walked around it 7 times backwards because apparently you will dream about your husband that night! We then got the bus to both of St.Brigit's wells.
At 12.00pm we got the bus to Newbridge Whitewater Shopping Centre to get lunch and we were all finished at 1.00pm.
After lunch we got the bus to KBowl near Whitewater Shopping Centre. We gave in all our teams and got ready in our lanes. We started bowling at around 1.40pm and we're finished within an hour.
We arrived home on time and everyone enjoyed the day a lot! :)

Dress up day

Last Friday the 15th of March was dress up day for St.Patrick's Day. Transition Year's had to dress up as leprechauns or fairies.
We had to pick one person from each class to go in the parade, from our class was Orla Conway! She was the best dressed in our class and she dressed up as an Irish fairy.
At big lunch we all went to the hall , we watched the parade of all the people from each class walking down the hall and some people did Irish Dancing.
After this the prefects put on music and all the students danced to different songs! It was an enjoyable day and we all had a great weekend! :)

Sci-Fest & Briary Gap

Last Friday was Sci-Fest in our school. We spent the last month writing up a  report on our project and designing our poster. Our experiment was about How Temperature Affects Performance.
We came in on Friday morning and set up our stand. Throughout the morning two judges came to us and were very impressed. Unfortunately my group didn't get through and we were very disappointed as we put a lot of work into it!
After Sci-Fest a group of 11 students & 2 teachers left for Macroom in Cork. We were all in class Siochain and were going to Cork to perform a drama. Our drama was about Homelessness. It took 3 and a half hours to get there. We performed our drama at quarter to four and had left by half 4. We didn't get home until half 8 unfortunately but stopped off at McDonalds on the way home. Everyone performed brilliantly and wen were all happy with our performance.
This week we also heard the good news that we got two awards. We got the Runner-Up award and the Best Atmosphere award.

Lollipop Day

A few weeks ago was Lollipop Day. This is a day to collect money for Oesophageal Cancer, it was two euro for either a lollipop or badge.
We all split up into groups of 4 and were put into different places in Dublin to collect. We spent the whole day collecting and split into two for lunchtime so someone would always be collecting.
Me and my group sang and danced for the people walking by and the people loved it. The coffee shop "The Olive Green" were very kind and they all gave us a free hot chocolate at the start of the day. Later on " Cafe Sol" gave us a coffee each also.
We all enjoyed the day and all the people were very nice to us!

Mini Company & Religion

Last Monday was our Mini Company schools final. Everyone was so nervous as we had to make a presentation for everyone including the judges.
We went straight to the hall in the morning and everyone had to set up their display stand. All my group set up our stand and were ready  by half 9. The judges arrived and firstly had a look around at everyone's stand just to see what everyone's idea was. After they had finished the presentations had to start. Unfortunately my group had to go first! Our presentation went well and we were glad to get it over and don't with. After all the presentations were over awards were handed out and 4 groups from TY were short listed! My Mini Company iBrow didn't get short listed but we were glad the day went well and enjoyed the whole experience :)

Last week in Religion we were all very busy practising. Out of my class there is 2 groups and each group have produced a drama. My groups drama is about Homelessness and the other groups is about War. We have been practising for many weeks now and both dramas are very good. Tomorrow both groups are going to Mullingar to perform the plays in front of other schools. Unfortunately I won't be able to be there but I know everything will go well for both groups!

Bye for now,

Mini Company

This week was crazy for Mini Company! We all had to finish off our Mini Company reports. Each person in every group had to do a lot of work to complete the report. We each got a heading under the report and all had our bit to do.
This Monday the 21st of January 2013 is the Mini Company Schools Final. Judges from around Kildare will come down to the school to judge all our companies. All groups must have a presentation ready for the judges about everything to do with our project. This week we have organised our presentation and we all have things to say about our project. Only a certain amount of people will be picked from our school unfortunately so I hope everybody's presentation goes well. We also will have to have a display ready so we will have posters and information about our company on our stall including a sample of all our things in our iBrow kit.
We are all looking forward to Monday as we will have a chance to show our company.
Bye for now,

Young Scientist

This week in school was the first week back after Christmas. It was weird being back as I felt like I had been off for months! The mid-term break was brilliant though and everyone loved it:)
On Thursday the 10th of January 2013 all Transition Year's and second years went to the B.T Young Scientist in RDS in Dublin. We all left the school around 9.15 and arrived at 11.15. We had until 2:45 to look around. We firstly had a look around at the projects and then made our way to the other section.  All the projects were so interesting and we got to try out a few things in some sections. We also got a lot of free stuff which is great. After a while we all got hungry and made our way to the canteen to get some food. Me and a few of my friends also went to see the RobotShow in the Arena. It lasted for around 20 minutes and it was really good.
We arrived home at the school just in time to go home and everyone had a brilliant day!
